ISOLE NEL VERDE. UNA SCUOLA ALL’ARIA APERTA
bioclimatic design for
a primary school
2014_K Plot, India

The project area is located in an island formed by branches of Ganges River and the Bay of Bengal, which, during the monsoon season, transform the area into a vast alluvial plain. The goal is to get a design in harmony with the place and offering suitable spaces for learning. Native technologies and materials are adopted, in order to involve the local manpower. The bioclimatic design produces a school campus divided into small pavilions, repeated for economy and simplicity, raised one meter above the ground with a bamboo stilts structure and connected together by platforms. The wide green space is useful for games and sports.
